Review: Visions of Heat by Nalini Singh

Visions of Heat (Psy-Changeling #2) by Nalini Singh
Publisher: Gollancz
Goodreads Summary: Used to cold silence, Faith NightStar is suddenly being tormented by dark visions of blood and murder. A bad sign for anyone, but worse for Faith, an F-Psy with the highly sought after ability to predict the future. Then the visions show her something even more dangerous - aching need & exquisite pleasure.
Rating: 5 Stars
Review: Faith NightStar is a cardinal F-Psy, able to see the future. Her visions are one of the most accurate in the world, and her value is priced dearly at many billions. When she escapes her isolated home in search of Sascha Duncan, the only known Psy to have ever escaped the PsyNet, she instead finds Vaughn D'Angelo, a jaguar changeling with his allegiance sworn to DarkRiver.

In Visions of Heat Faith and Vaughn's story takes the centre stage, but Sascha and Lucas are also a major part of the story. This development enables other romances and keeps it interesting. Faith's story is quite different from Sascha's which I liked because it showed the originality of the series. In this book Nalini Singh explores the F-Psy and the consequences of Silence in yet another brilliantly written novel. The plot twists weren't as easy to predict, though mystery wasn't as prominent a part of the story and I thought it was solved a little too easily. Faith's romance with Vaughn worked differently as well, with the similar themes of "I don't want you to die trying to save me", "you're mine", etc which I found slightly repetitive, but perhaps necessary.

One of the things I liked the most about this book is Faith's communication with the PsyNet NetMind. In Slave to Sensation, Sascha was always trying to avoid getting detected by it, which Faith is talking to it and we get a better understanding of how it functions and its thought process. The communication through images is another obstacle they much overcome to achieve the result.

I have an addiction to the author's dual third person perspectives. Something about them makes me love reading the books in this series so much. The emotional side of it affects me as well, but not as much as some other books. Visions of Heat gave us more background and discoveries about the basis of the Psy world, however the storyline didn't move forward as much; I suppose there must be a balance. Something about the book made me enjoy it more than Slave to Sensation, making it easier to write this review and earning it an extra half star.

Review: Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh

Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh
Publisher: Gollancz
Goodreads Summary:
THE HOT NEW NAME IN PARANORMAL ROMANCE.

Nalini Singh dives into a world torn apart by a powerful race with phenomenal powers of the mind-and none of the heart.

In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to the horror of "rehabilitation" - the complete psychic erasure of everything she ever was...

Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy coexistence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passion - and that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identities - or sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation.
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Review:
Sascha Duncan does not have the easiest relationship with her mother Nikita. She is Psy, the race taught not to feel any emotion at all. On top of that, she is a Cardinal Psy, her eyes marking her as different from others, the most powerful type of Psy. When she is tasked with forming a deal with the Changelings, she meets Lucas Hunter, alpha leopard of the DarkRiver clan.

Sascha's flaw allows her to feel emotion, which is expressly forbidden, and should she be found she will be sent into rehabiliation, a place that is rumoured to be worse than death. However the Changelings see a different side of her, and soon she is immersed into their world, cut off from the Psy.

Lucas Hunter is an intriguing hcaracter. He's an alpha male through and throuhg, but he's a little different from both the 'human alphas' in romance novels and the shapeshifter (mainly werewolf) men found in fantasy novels. He is a leopard, but called a panther due to his black colouring in animal form. I found that I like his panther side a lot and his animal characteristics.

There was very little missing or wrong with Slave to Sensation, however I found that the serial killer was very predictable and I guessed it correctly from near the start of the book. I would've liked to hear more about Sascha's mental exercises and how they calm her down as well. A more detailed description of Lucas's panther would also have made me like the book more.

This book contains mystery, romance and paranormal in an all-in-one. No pat of the above lacks when compared to the others, they are equal parts of the book and treated as such. I enjoyed reading Nalini Singh's writing and how she decided to write Sascha's perspective because of her important but difficult choices, her development and changes as well as the hardships she went through in order to survive.

Two fractured hearts and a forbidden love they can’t deny.

Dropped smack-dab into the All-American dream, Faye should feel grateful. Except living with her wealthy uncle, his fashion-empire-owning wife, and their seven screwed-up sons is quickly turning into a nightmare—especially when certain inappropriate feelings arise.

Kyler Kennedy makes her head hurt and her heart race, but he’s her cousin.

Kyler has sworn off girls, yet Faye gets under his skin. The more he pushes her away, the more he’s drawn to her, but acting on those feelings risks a crap-ton of prejudice, and any whiff of scandal could damage the precious Kennedy brand.

Finding Kyler Teaser One Kyler

Excerpt:

Their obscene wealth intimidates me.

Not the people.

The money.

The driver opens my uncle’s door first before attending to mine. James doesn’t make any move to exit. He looks contemplative. “I hope you’ll be happy here, Faye. Truly, I do.”

“Thank you. Me, too.” I hop out of the car as the driver retrieves my suitcase from the boot.

A splash of color in the corner of the garage captures my attention. Three racing motorbikes rest on an elevated platform. One is orange and blue and there is a multitude of brand logos on the side. The other two bikes are no less impressive. One is painted in a dark shade of green, the other bright yellow. A myriad of similar stickers decorates the side panels. I’m inexplicably drawn to them, and my feet move of their own accord.

Reaching out, I run the tip of my finger along the bodywork and up and down the wheels, my fingers dipping into the grooves in the tires. I can almost feel the enhanced adrenaline in the air. Motorbikes have always excited me, and the pure rush I’m getting is sending tingles of anticipation ricocheting all over my body.

I’m so entranced that I barely register the sound of approaching footsteps.

“Get your hands off my bike.” The deep male cadence verges on a predatory growl. The possessive quality to his voice isn’t lost on me either.

Giant goose bumps sprout on my arms, but I smother my fear and lift my head up in a confident manner. A red flush creeps up my chest and over my neck as a devastatingly good-looking boy reaches my side.

I’m tall—for a girl—and I’m usually pretty much on the level with most guys, but the top of my head barely reaches this dude’s chin, so he’s got to be at least six-two to my five-nine.

His body exudes warmth like a weapon. It crashes into me, almost knocking me off my feet. Slowly, my eyes travel up his body, taking in every ripped, lean, taut inch of him. He’s wearing dark navy jeans and a plain white shirt that’s molded to his perfectly chiseled abs like it’s painted on. I gulp.

They sure don’t grow them like this in Ireland.

My eyes continue their journey, up beyond the inviting, exposed strip of skin at the top of his shirt, and note voluptuous lips that are pinched tight, the light layer of dark stubble on his sculpted chin and cheeks, and the tan, smooth lines of his handsome face. I brace myself, rocking back on my heels, as I stare into stunning pale blue eyes. Framed by a thick layer of inky-black lashes most girls would kill for, his eyes are vast pools that I could easily drown in.
This guy is seriously good-looking, and he knows it, too. Crossing his arms over his chest, he pins me with a venomous look, and I shrink back from the dangerous vibes he’s emitting.

“Are you done drooling yet?”

Announcement: Theme Change!

Hey everyone! So I've decided to change my theme, as you can see the background of this blog is a lot lighter now. Also, I recently hit 600 followers on Bloglovin, thank you all for checking out my blog and deciding to follow! <3 p="">
I'd love to do discussion posts on this blog, so as of January 1, 2017 I will (hopefully) be doing a Weekly Discussion. I've tried memes in the past, but people have rarely commented so I'm hoping this will work and you will all join the discussion! I won't discontinue it if I don't get any comments, however if this occurs week after week I'll have to reconsider.

I'm trying to post more frequently here, and also read more books. I've scheduled some posts for 2017 (already?!) and I'm starting a new posting scheme, which is scheduling reviews of books which I've read for fun about a month or so ahead, and posting ARC reviews or reviews of books which I've received from publishers/authors in the next week or so, current time. This seems to work for me, and helps me post more :)

Just thought I'd update you guys :) As always, if you have any suggestions, please let me know! Finally, have you seen my bookstagram? I'd love it if you checked it out :D

Thanks!

The setting needed to play a critical part in the story as well. So, with my roots firmly planted in Georgia, I modeled my fictional town after so many small Southern towns, and I set in some of my love of nature. Being a Southerner, I had definite ideas about elements I needed for this story to come alive. Besides fascinating characters and a distinctive setting, there had to be a little crazy, eccentric, and some downright meanness, mixed with suspense, romance, and lots of southern charm. And if the story makes you long for dirt roads and blackberry picking, shade trees and front porch visiting, then I’ve done my job.

The Silver Dagger Scriptorium - A Sketch of Lily Rose’s Father, Michael Cates

Lily Rose’s relationship with her father sets the stage for her life and the story, My Father’s House. Although the reader gets only glimpses of her “Daddy”, they are telling glimpses which reveal who he is. Michael Cates takes the dominant role in his daughter’s early life and development. In that brief first chapter, the reader learns he takes particular pride and joy in his wife and daughter.

Wishful Endings - Excerpt

I followed him out onto the porch and watched him walk to the truck, stop, and turn. He fixed his gaze on me, and I knew he didn’t want to leave. I smiled then, and he nodded before getting in and backing down the driveway. He waved, and something about his smile and the gentle blue of the sky strengthened my heart. I watched him disappear down the street before I turned and walked back inside.

Falling Leaves - Excerpt

Something about his presence excited me. Maybe it was the way he lingered beside me and caressed me with his eyes. It was hard for me not to stare at his smooth olive hands as they moved back and forth around our table.

I suppose I got caught up in the moment because without thinking, I asked, “Would you take our picture?” I held the camera out at arm’s length to the dreamy eyed waiter. I smiled before saying “please” as sweet as pie.

Rockin' Book Reviews - Review

"What an excellent story! I really enjoyed reading it. . . . It was a good clean story with lots of action and suspense. I would recommend this book to all readers."

Tell Tale Book Reviews - Character Sketch of Lily Rose Cates

This dark-haired, green-eyed, slip of a girl is the protagonist of My Father’s House and the emotional heart of the story. The reader is drawn into her story that pulses with life, and can’t help feeling her joys, fears, and hopes. The development of Lily Rose’s character is central to the novel. As a child, she was nurtured and sheltered from the harsher realities of life. Innocent, good-hearted, with no experience with the evils of the world, the reader watches her struggle with her own naiveté and illusions of love.

Jessica and Gracie's Tree - The Antagonist and His Foil in My Father’s House

Sam is a foil to Manuel. Whereas Manny is controlling and harsh, Sam is soft spoken, easy-going and kind. Lily associates Manuel with cars, work, and high powered city living; whereas she constantly associates Sam with the animals, the outdoors, and community.

Review: Holding by Graham Norton

Holding by Graham Norton
Publisher: Hachette Australia
Goodreads Summary:
Graham Norton's masterful debut is an intelligently crafted story of love, secrets and loss.

The remote Irish village of Duneen has known little drama; and yet its inhabitants are troubled. Sergeant PJ Collins hasn't always been this overweight; mother of two Brid Riordan hasn't always been an alcoholic; and elegant Evelyn Ross hasn't always felt that her life was a total waste.

So when human remains are discovered on an old farm, suspected to be that of Tommy Burke - a former love of both Brid and Evelyn - the village's dark past begins to unravel. As the frustrated PJ struggles to solve a genuine case for the first time in his life, he unearths a community's worth of anger and resentments, secrets and regret.

Darkly comic, touching and at times profoundly sad. Graham Norton employs his acerbic wit to breathe life into a host of loveable characters, and explore - with searing honesty - the complexities and contradictions that make us human.
Rating: 4 Stars
Review:
Set in the village of Duneen, Ireland, Holding is told in third person omniscient. The main characters are PJ Collins, Brid Riordan and Evelyn Ross. The genres are contemporary, mystery, and romance. This book follows an investigation of bones found during an excavation.

I only realised after starting this book that it is written by Graham Norton, the Graham Norton. I didn't know too much about him anyway, and I read it as if it were any other book. I have to say, I'm impressed; celebrity novels are usually ghost written or terrible. I wasn't expecting Holding to be so good.

PJ Collins is the Sergeant of Duneen. He is rather overweight and not expected to chase anyone on foot, but works hard and does his job well. Brid Riordan and Evelyn Ross were both involved with Tommy Burke, the man whose bones are suspected to be the ones excavated.

Holding is not the contemporary novel I expected. Graham Norton writes the mystery and romance parts of the book with skill, highlighting a lot of current global issues. The ending is shockingly sad and the characters aren't all the same, Graham Norton shows their flaws as well, they are all struggling with various problems in teir lives. I especially enjoyed Holding because the writer connects well with the readers through the style and I was emotionally invested in the book.

This is a great book, I just can't think of what to say about it. As with any small tow, Duneen has a collection of secrets. Book Tour Grand Finale for

Boots and Bedlam
By Ashley Farley

We hope you enjoyed some holiday cheer, spending time with a close family, and a little chaos thrown in. If you missed any of the stops, go back and check them out...

Launch - Author Interview

What do you hope readers take with them after they’ve read it?

BOOTS AND BEDLAM is a little more light-hearted than the previous two in the series. Although not totally. I had to throw in plenty of family drama to keep you reading. More than anything, I’d like for my readers to finish the last chapter with a warm feeling, a feeling like they can accomplish anything for the sake of family. I hope you’ll watch my book trailer. It really captures the tone of the novel.

Christy's Cozy Corners - Excerpt

He wrapped his arms around her from behind. “More fireplaces means better snuggling for us.”

Falling Leaves - Excerpt

Sam cleared her throat. “I’d like to meet this Sophia before you start planning the wedding.”

She knew three things about Jamie’s girlfriend. Sophia Rainey was a beautiful redhead from California who made her sorority her priority. Jamie had been seeing Sophia for eight months, but so far Sam had yet to meet her.

Mel's Shelves - Jackie Sweeney Hart

Books The Magical Fruit - Excerpt

“You look great. You needed to gain some weight. But that’s not it. There’s something else, something that’s not physical.” Sam’s mouth fell open and her eyes grew wide. “Do you have a boyfriend?”

Annie’s cheeks turned a vibrant shade of pink.

Nicole's Book Musings - Review

"I really enjoyed this one. What could be more exciting then a wedding on Christmas Eve. . . . I really like the cover and I'm a sucker for a Christmas setting. This book had the right amount of angst, love, and humor. A well rounded story."

underneath the covers - Faith Sweeney Evans

Rockin' Book Reviews - Review

"A good story with believable characters. It was so good to read a story that is so true to life. . . . The story flowed well and kept me interested. I would refer it to all teens through adult age readers. I think everyone could learn something from it and enjoy the story as well."

fuonlyknew - Excerpt

The back door in the kitchen creaked open. Seconds later Eli entered the room, stopping short when he saw her sitting on the floor in tattered jeans, a USC sweatshirt, and a baseball cap pulled low, hiding much of her face. “Don’t take this the wrong way. I think you look hot in your work clothes. But I hope you’re not planning to wear them out to dinner.”

Reading Is My SuperPower - Review

"Boots and Bedlam is a lively and romantic Christmas novella that reminds us of the strength of family and the heart of the season. While some serious issues are addressed in the story, the mood stays positive and cozy yet doesn’t take addiction lightly. A couple of surprising twists have me eagerly waiting for the next Sweeney book!"

Katie's Clean Book Collection - Review

"I wasn't expecting to get such a heavy story with this one--remember Christmas wedding? . . . That aside, I love the messages found within these pages: love conquers all, Christmas is a time for miracles, and kindness matters. The lengths people were willing to go to in order to put this wedding together warmed my heart and soul."

Book Lover in Florida - Samantha "Sam" Sweeney

Heidi Reads... - Excerpt

“What exactly do you have in mind for me tonight, Lt. Marshall?”
“You'll have to wait and see.” He scooped her off her feet and carried her outside to the car—her Jeep judging from the squeaky passenger door and the smell of mildew inside.
“Where are we going?” she asked when he set her down on the seat.
“Stop asking so many questions. You'll find out when we get there,” he said, and slammed the door.

Set in the South Carolina Lowcountry and packed with Southern charm and memorable characters, HER SISTER'S SHOES portrays three sisters—Samantha, Jackie, and Faith—who struggle to balance the demands of career and family while remaining true to themselves.

Samantha Sweeney has always been the glue that holds her family together, their go-to girl for love and support. When an ATV accident leaves her teenage son in a wheelchair, she loses her carefully constructed self-control.

In the after-gloom of her dreaded fiftieth birthday and the discovery of her husband’s infidelity, Jackie realizes she must reconnect with her former self to find the happiness she needs to move forward.

Faith lacks the courage to stand up to her abusive husband. She turns to her sisters for help, placing all their lives at risk.

In the midst of their individual challenges, the Sweeney sisters must cope with their mother’s mental decline. Is Lovie in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, or is her odd behavior normal for a woman her age? No one, including Lovie, understands her obsession with a rusty key she wears around her neck.

For fans of Elin Hildebrand, HER SISTER'S SHOES is a contemporary women’s novel that explores and proves the healing power of family.

Family Drama, Southern Style.

There's a stranger in town. And it’s no coincidence when she shows up uninvited at a Sweeney family wedding. All eyes are drawn to this urchin who seems to have washed in with the tide. Before the night is over, the doe-eyed waif charms young and old with her street smarts and spunky personality. For better or worse, Annie Dawn is here to stay.

The memorable Sweeney sisters from Her Sister’s Shoes have returned with more suspense and family drama to hold you spellbound until the dramatic conclusion. As she approaches the next stage of her life as an empty nester, Jackie is torn between expanding her fledgling design business and spending these last precious months with her boys before they fly the coop. Her own worst enemy, Sam is terrified of making a commitment to Eli Marshall, handsome police officer, true love of her life. Her resolve is tested when a ghost from her past shows up after nearly two decades. Faith nurtures her seven-year-old daughter who is recovering from the trauma of her abusive father. Is the threat in the past, or is there more danger on the horizon? The sisters seek guidance from their mother, Lovie, a true Southern matriarch who shows them how to respond to adversity with grace and dignity.

Things are heating up in the Lowcountry. The Sweeney sisters remind us, once again, that being a part of a family is about more than sharing the same DNA.

Ashley Farley is the author of the bestselling series, the Sweeney Sisters Series. Ashley writes books about women for women. Her characters are mothers, daughters, sisters, and wives facing real-life issues. Her goal is to keep you turning the pages until the wee hours of the morning. If her story stays with you long after you've read the last word, then she's done her job.

After her brother died in 1999 of an accidental overdose, she turned to writing as a way of releasing her pent-up emotions. She wrote SAVING BEN in honor of Neal, the boy she worshiped, the man she could not save.

Ashley is a wife and mother of two college-aged children. She grew up in the salty marshes of South Carolina, but now lives in Richmond, Virginia, a city she loves for its history and traditions.

Book Blitz: Grand Finale: Heir of Thunder by Karissa Laurel (Giveaway)

Book Tour Grand Finale for

Heir of Thunder
By Karissa Laurel

An epic fantasy about a girl who must face losing all to gain what is hers. We hope you enjoyed the tour! If you missed any of the stops, go back and check them out now...

Launch - Author Interview

1. What is your motivation behind HEIR OF THUNDER? Why did you want to write it?

Quite a few years ago (2008 to be precise) Cold Play released 'Viva La Vida', and I fell in love with that song, particularly the opening lines:

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

Listening to that song, I got a pretty instant vision of a character who was powerful, but lost her kingdom somehow. That idea evolved into HEIR OF THUNDER. Evie was never really the ruler of her kingdom, but she had always supposed that she would be. That possibility is ripped away from her before she gets the chance to find out what kind of queen she could be.

Katie's Clean Book Collection - Excerpt

A rumble of thunder woke me. I shifted under my quilts, turned towards my window, and searched the sky for clouds. Storms always made me smile; made me feel a little less lonely.

Wishful Endings - Excerpt

My bedroom door flew open, and Gerda rushed in still wearing her rumpled nightgown. The braid she wore for sleeping had slackened during the night, and stiff rust-colored curls sprang around her face. Fear and worry crackled from her like static from a wool blanket. “Evie, my dear, you’ve got to get dressed.” She pulled me to my feet and yanked my sleeping gown over my head.

Rockin' Book Reviews - Excerpt

Gerda backed out of my wardrobe, wide rump first, and turned to face me. A stern expression hardened her face as she clamped her hands to her hips, and in a sharp tone said, “You are our main concern, Evie. Let’s get you safely away, and then I’ll worry about myself.”

Live Laugh & Love Books - Excerpt

Another explosion rocked the floor, and Gerda stumbled against the wardrobe. She leaned on the heavy piece of furniture until she regained her footing. The house shook and groaned as something structural gave way. Yells and shouts carried up from the lower floors.

Beck Valley Books - Excerpt

I hugged her again and dashed out the door.
In the hallway, several of the house’s other occupants hurried past me in various states of dress. Tolick, the all-purpose houseboy, ran toward the stairwell. He had managed to button on his trousers but had neglected to remove his nightcap.

The Silver Dagger Scriptorium - Excerpt

Would we return before the ivy took over? Would the house survive long enough for it to matter?
I ran past the garden’s iron gates and my breath puffed in thin, vaporous spurts. Spring had arrived less than two weeks ago, and the mornings still lingered in the recent days of winter. I pulled up my hood and wrapped my cloak tighter around me as a shield against the cold.

Falling Leaves - Excerpt

“Evie, what are you doing?” Gideon’s unmistakable bellow interrupted my thoughts. My father’s young horse master waited at the gate of the small paddock beside the stables, clutching two reins in his fist. One leather line led to his giant black stallion, Gespenst—a Dreutchish name meaning specter, or ghost. The other tether led to my horse, Nonnie, a gray-coated mare with a dappled rump.

Christy's Cozy Corners - Excerpt

“Gideon, what’s happening?” I jogged toward him. Something exploded behind me, and the aftershock sent me stumbling, but Gideon’s free hand shot out and latched around my elbow. I locked eyes on his stoic face and refused to look back.

The Lord of Thunder’s sudden death leaves his daughter, Evelyn Stormbourne, unprepared to rule Inselgrau in his place. Weeks before Evie’s ascension to the throne, revolutionaries attack and destroy her home. She conceals her identity and escapes under the protection of her father’s young horse master, Gideon Faust. Together they flee Inselgrau and set sail for the Continent, but they’re separated when a brutal storm washes Evie overboard.

In her efforts to reunite with her protector and reach allies on the Continent, Evie befriends a band of nomads who roam the world in airships fueled by lightning. She also confronts a cabal of dark Magicians plotting to use her powers to create a new divine being, and she clashes with an ancient family who insists her birthright belongs to them.

If she’s to prevail and defeat her enemies, Evie must claim her heritage, embrace her dominion over the sky, and define what it means to be Heir of Thunder.

Karissa Laurel lives in North Carolina with her kid, her husband, the occasional in-law, and a very hairy husky. Some of her favorite things are coffee, chocolate, and super heroes. She can quote Princess Brideverbatim. She loves to read and has a sweet tooth for fantasy, sci-fi, and anything in between.

Sometimes her husband convinces her to put down the books and take the motorcycles out for a spin. When it snows, you’ll find her on the slopes.

Karissa also crafts, paints, draws, and harbors a grand delusion that she might create a graphic novel someday.

Launch - Tour Welcome

My latest release, A Convenient Christmas Wedding, is about sharing Christmas with family and friends as well. I hope you’ll enjoy it and share it with those you love.

Backing Books - Review

"This story really pushed hard on the theme of just what a marriage should look like, with both partners helping and respecting each other while still encouraging the other to grow."

I Am A Reader - Brides for the Frontier

Yes, I know, my series is called Frontier Bachelors, but the whole idea started with brides, and a story I heard when I was a girl. You see, the Civil War left thousands of East Coast women without fathers, husbands, and sweethearts, while in pioneer Seattle, loggers, miners, and farmers were pining away for wives. An enterprising young fellow named Asa Mercer decided to unite the two factions. He made two trips, the first time bringing a dozen women to Seattle, the second time bringing around sixty. Nearly all of those women married and became the founding mothers of the Territory.

Christy's Cozy Corners - Review

"I love Christmas stories like this. This is a sweet and clean book that will make you smile as you read. It’s fast-paced and an easy read. Even if you haven’t read the other books in the series, you’ll be able to keep up just fine. I definitely recommend you read A Convenient Christmas Wedding this Christmas season."

Getting Your Read On - Review

"This was such a sweet, gentle romance novel. It was filled with charming characters and scenes that warmed my heart. This is the fifth novel in this series but it can easily stand alone."

Rockin' Book Reviews - Review

"This was such a twist of the normal arrangements for that time period. . . . It was refreshingly clean. There was slight humor and the various characters created were so real and interesting. The scenes described were easily visualized."

Falling Leaves - Excerpt

“Mr. Wallin,” she said, the sound of her thundering heart nearly eclipsing her voice in her ears. “I’m Nora Underhill, and I have a proposal for you.”

He frowned. His brows were a shade darker than his short, light-brown hair. They made a firm slash across his tanned skin. Those green eyes were like chips of jade as he gazed down at her. “A proposal?”

“Yes,” she said, amazed at her own audacity. “An actual proposal. Simon Wallin, I want you to marry me.”

i blog 4 books - Review

"This is a perfect book for readers who enjoy frontier settings, marriage of convenience stories, feisty women, and sweet romance. Highly recommend!"

Mel's Shelves - Review

"I enjoy a good marriage of convenience story and this one fits the bill! It's a heartwarming story that is a perfect read for this time of year!"

Katie's Clean Book Collection - Review

"Watching sweet, hard-working, gentle characters make their ways in life, find satisfaction and happiness, and even love, is so heartening. This book is like drinking a mug of thick, chocolatey hot chocolate on a cold winter's day--it'll warm your insides, melt your heart, and leave you with a contented feeling."

Reading Is My SuperPower - Review

"Fans of marriage-of-convenience stories will find much to love about A Convenient Christmas Wedding. (Plus – isn’t that cover so pretty?!?) Nora is easy to love, and Simon is one of those deliciously brooding-but-good-hearted heroes we all adore. . . . Regina Scott sweeps you away to the Pacific Northwest frontier and gives you a front row seat to a sweet and Christmasy story to cozy up with on a cold winter’s night."

Wishful Endings - Review

"A story with some charming humor, inspiring moments, and lovely romance that is sure to delight inspirational romance readers."

Bookworm Lisa - Review

"This is a feel good book that is perfect for the holidays. . . . While this book starts out as a marriage of convenience, it doesn't take long for the reader to see that they are perfect for each other and it needs to become a romantic relationship. I loved how they seem to find mishap after mishap that throws them into situations where they learn to trust each other and develop affection."

Bookworm Nation - Five Reasons to Agree to a Marriage of Convenience

I wrote more than a dozen Regency romances before I ever wrote my first marriage of convenience story. Since joining the Love Inspired Historical family, however, I find myself embracing the idea. A marriage of convenience is when two people agree to marry with no commitment of love. What makes a good marriage of convenience story is when love starts to grow, despite circumstances and protests from the bride and groom’s hearts.

Heidi Reads... - Review

"I adore a well-written marriage of convenience story, and this one did not disappoint! . . . A sweet holiday romance that's perfect for the season! I've read one of the other books in the series and loved it as well, I'm looking forward to reading the rest!"

The Power of Words - Review

"A Convenient Christmas Wedding is one of my favorite stories in the series, and I just can’t get enough of the Wallin family. Within the Love Inspired line, 5 stars. Highly recommend."

Singing Librarian Books - Review

"Regina Scott has written a cute and sweet holiday romance in her fifth book in the Frontier Bachelors Series, A Convenient Christmas Wedding. . . . I would recommend this novel to readers that have enjoyed Scott’s previous work, as well as those that want a little historical holiday romance."

Christian Chick's Thoughts - Review

"I really enjoyed reading Nora and Simon's story. It reminded me a bit of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers—no, the plot isn't too similar, but the setting is. And I could easily see the Wallin boys fitting in with Seven Brides'Pontipee brothers. . . . I really enjoyed A Convenient Christmas Wedding—it's the perfect book for a winter night."

Tell Tale Book Reviews - How to Have a Pioneer Christmas

For one thing, Christmas celebrations didn’t start until very close to the actual day. Oh, there might be some scurrying around making presents—a hand-knit scarf for Uncle Joe, a new bonnet for the baby—and the goose would have to be plucked days before it went into the oven, but often even the decorating didn’t happen until Christmas Eve.

Frontier Bachelors: Bold, rugged–and bound to be grooms

Regina Scott started writing novels in the third grade. Thankfully for literature as we know it, she didn't actually sell her first novel until she had learned a bit more about writing such as vocabulary, sentence structure, and plot. After numerous short stories and articles in magazines and trade journals, she got serious about her novel writing. The Unflappable Miss Fairchild was her first novel to be published (March 1998).

Besides her novels, Regina Scott has had published three Regency novellas ("The June Bride Conspiracy" in His Blushing Bride, "Sweeter Than Candy" in A Match for Mother, and "A Place by the Fire" in Mistletoe Kittens). Two of her novels, A Dangerous Dalliance and The Twelve Days of Christmas, have been translated into German. A Dangerous Dalliance and The Incomparable Miss Compton have been translated into Italian. Starstruck and Perfection have been translated into Dutch.

Regina Scott and her husband are the parents of two sons. They reside in the Tri-Cities of southeast Washington State and are members of the Church of the Nazarene. Born in 1959 and raised in the Seattle area, Regina Scott is a graduate of the University of Washington. She comes by her writing talent naturally--both her parents are excellent writers in their vocations as teacher and electrical technician. Her mother envisioned the plot for "Sweeter Than Candy," the novella which was written as a tribute to her.

Regina Scott is a devout Christian and a decent fencer; owns a historical, fantasy, and science fiction costume collection that currently takes up over a third of her large closet; and has been known to impersonate an independent consultant specializing in risk communication.
