Review:

~I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review~

Wow. I loved True Calling from the start, and Beyond Reach took off exactly where True Calling ended, leaving no room for questions. Destiny Rising slowly revealed what the last chapter of Beyond Reach meant, piece by piece with lots of hints. The first two parts of Destiny Rising accented this as well as starting off the Cal/Zane feud right where it stopped in Beyond Reach. The ending of Beyond Reach was both a conclusion and a cliffhanger, which proves that Siobhan Davis really is the master of endings. Her conclusions of everything, from a paragraph to the end of a book, have been spectacular and have made the length well worth the read.

When Siobhan finally revealed the secrets hidden in Beyond Reach, she did so in a different way; instead of thoughts, she revealed using conversation, and this maximised the effect of her hidden hints. True Calling was great, and Beyond Reach was awesome. But Destiny Rising definitely took the series to a whole new level. The True Calling Series definitely deserves to become as well known as popular series such as The Maze Runner, The Hunger Games, Divergent, etc... It's that good a book, and I definitely recommend reading the series.

At first, I was a bit nervous about how the ending of Destiny Rising would turn out. But Siobhan Davis overwhelmed me with happiness as I finished the book; she gave every deserving character a happy ending, as well as resolving the love triangle completely. I'm sad that True Calling has ended, but Siobhan Davis hasn't, and I can't wait to read more by her, including her upcoming Saven series.

Top Ten Popular Books You Never Think You'll Get To?

  1. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. I have a paperback copy of the first book sitting beside my bed for well over a year. Totally embarrassing that I haven’t read it yet. I’m not sure what my reluctance is other than I know there are tons of books in this series and if I like them I’ll want to devour them all immediately. Bit of a problem when I don’t have that kind of time to devote with my own writing.

  1. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. I’ve been dying to read this series as it’s so popular and so many people love it. Plus the blurbs sound so intriguing. I have the first book on my Kindle the last six months and I’m determined to start it this month.

  1. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. I’ve read so many amazing reviews for this series and I just know I’ll love it when I do eventually get around to reading it. Also, those covers are seriously stunning.

  1. The Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa. I haven’t read any of her books but I know I need to!

  1. Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. Several bloggers have recommended this series to me and I love books centering on angels and demons so I’m sure I’ll be enthralled if I ever find them to invest in it.

  1. If I Stay by Gayle Forman. It’s super popular and was even made into a film. I’m not a huge fan of contemporary YA romance though I loved TFIOS.

  1. Mara Dyer series by Michelle Hodkin. So many people rave about this series but I’m not sure if it’s my sort of book, but I’d like to at least read the first one to determine whether or not it is.

  1. The Mindjack series by Susan Kaye Quinn. I’ve had this series on my Kindle forever and I’m sure it will be brilliant. I read Susan’s ‘Legacy Singularity’ a few months back and loved her writing so I definitely want to check out more of her work.

  1. An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. Amazing cover, reviews, and the blurb suggests this is right up my alley.

  1. Angel Fall by Susan Ee. Sounds incredible and a must-read.

Excerpt:

I don’t think I even like me anymore, so how on earth can I expect him to if he finds out? Though the temptation to share the burden is riding me hard, I can’t risk losing Cal again. “I remember some stuff, but it’s not what you think. It’s just the enormity of everything and where I am. I had such plans for my life, you know? None of this was on my agenda.” I shake my head and bite down on my lip. Risking a peek at him, I note his narrowed eyes and taut jawline. Jeez, I’m such an idiot. I can’t seem to stop putting my foot in it.

“I’m not explaining properly,” I say, wrapping my arm across his shoulders. “I want to be with you, but all the other stuff … it’s overwhelming. And it’s as if it’s just hit me, like an out-of-control juggernaut.”
“You know you can tell me anything, right?” He twists a lock of my hair around his finger.
He doesn’t believe me.
“Of course. And I would if there was anything to tell. I’m just trying to get my head around everything.” I hate lying again because I’ve promised him that there will be no more secrets between us.
But I can’t tell him this.
I can’t. I won’t.
I don’t want to see the look in his eyes when he realizes I’m not the person he thinks I am. I always thought I was a good person, but now? Now, I’m not so sure.
My eyes dart to the glass again. “I wish I was a fish,” I blurt out.
Cal almost chokes on his laugh. “What?”
“Look at them,” I say, motioning with my hand. “They look content, right?”
“Okaaaay. I’ll play along.” He arches a brow.
My eyes stare transfixed out the window. “Life must be so simple, just swimming along without a care in the world. And if they succumb to a predator, it would be fast. Two seconds of realization and then poof, over and out. No politics, no suffering, no impending war. No …” I clamp my mouth shut in time, the word ‘baby’ lying unspoken on my tongue.
If Cal notices, he doesn’t let on. “Hhmm,” he says, his finger trailing a path down the side of my face. My skin tingles in every place where he touches me and I shudder. He smiles knowingly. “How do you know fish aren’t plagued with worries and concerns? That they don’t think and feel the same way we do?” His lips tug up at the corners.
“Oh please! What do they have to worry about? Corrupt governments? Fake rebel movements? A deranged bitch with some kind of personal vendetta?”
He frowns, his finger momentarily stalling on my cheek. “If you were a fish, which one would you be?”
I’m caught off guard by the blatant diversion, but I decide to go with the flow.
Anything to avoid a further convo about my recalled memories.
I check out the current batch of beauties floating by the glass. “That one,” I say, pointing to a rather dainty looking cerise pink fish with a peachy snout. “That one’s pretty, right?”
“Yeah, but pretty doesn’t do you justice.” He sits up straighter and leans toward the glass. “You’d be that one,” he says, pointing to a larger purple-colored fish, with vibrant orange fringing and blue-gold veins curling around its fins. The fish swims to the glass and looks in at us, almost as if it knows we are pointing it out. Its golden speckled snout has a decidedly elegant appearance, an almost regal presence.
His choice is infinitely better than mine.
“You still haven’t taken those rose-tinted glasses off, have you?” I peer closely at him. “In fact, if I didn’t know better, I’d swear you’ve upgraded to double glazing.” I grin. Goofing around helps enormously. I haven’t thought of the hideous memory for the last five minutes, although I’m thinking about it now.
I sigh loudly.
Cal looks at me pensively. “I love you,” he says out of nowhere, pressing his lips briefly to mine.
“I love you too.” Wrapping my other arm around him, I cling to him and inhale the familiar fresh scent that always reminds me of a crisp, spring day in the woods back home in Connecticut.  His hand tangles through my hair as my cheek rests on his shoulder. I could quite happily just sit here forever.
Everything feels right when I’m with him like this.

“This is without a doubt the best book this author has written so far. I loved it from the start until the end. This series shows how a love triangle can be done right. Destiny Rising evoked so many emotions in me … and the ending, wow, so powerful. I highly recommend this series.” Lola’s Reviews.

“Suspense, and the urge to turn the page were almost overwhelming, resulting in quite a few long nights. The story is complex, but solidly built. Good to the last page.” Patricia Hamill. Author Blogger. Puretextuality. @PatriciaHamill2

“I cannot put my love for Siobhan Davis’ True Calling series into words – it’s easily one of my favorite series. Destiny Rising tugs at your heart strings and messes with your feelings, but it is so wonderful. The writing is brilliant and flows wonderfully. Davis’ brings the series to a close with an epilogue that ties everything perfectly together. What a fantastic ride…” Danielle. RamblingB00ks Blog.

“True Calling was great, and Beyond Reach was awesome, but Destiny Rising took the series to a whole new level. This series deserves to become as well-known as popular series such as The Maze Runner, The Hunger Games, Divergent, etc... It's that good.” Rose. Paranormal Books Blog.
