“If Janet Evanovich teamed with a young adult, fairy-tale author like Marissa Meyer (the Lunar Chronicles) or Alex Flinn (Beastly), the result might be something like Christina Bauer’s Wolves and Roses.” –Blue Ink Review
Seventeen-year-old Bryar Rose has a problem. She’s descended from one of the three magical races—shifters, fairies, or witches. That makes her one of the Magicorum, and Magicorum always follow a fairy tale life template. In Bryar’s case, that template should be Sleeping Beauty.
“Should” being the key word.
Trouble is, Bryar is nowhere near the sleeping beauty life template. Not even close. She doesn’t like birds or woodland creatures. She can’t sing. And she certainly can’t stand Prince Philpot, the so-called “His Highness of Hedge Funds” that her aunties want her to marry. Even worse, Bryar’s having recurring dreams of a bad boy hottie and is obsessed with finding papyri from ancient Egypt. What’s up with that?
All Bryar wants is to attend a regular high school with normal humans and forget all about shifters, fairies, witches, and the curse that Colonel Mallory the Magnificent placed on her. And she might be able to do just that–if only she can just keep her head down until her eighteenth birthday when the spell that’s ruined her life goes buh-bye.
But that plan gets turned upside down when Bryar Rose meets Knox, the bad boy who’s literally from her dreams. Knox is a powerful werewolf, and his presence in her life changes everything, and not just because he makes her knees turn into Jell-O. If Bryar can’t figure out who—or what—she really is, it might cost both her and Knox their lives… as well as jeopardize the very nature of magic itself.

For Elea, there’s never been a better time to turn away from witch life. The Tsar is in exile. The Vicomte is dead. And Rowan? Falling for him only broke her heart. Instead of casting spells, Elea spends her days running Braddock Farm and enjoying the flirtations of the very handsome and non-magical Philippe. Everything is going perfectly, except for one problem.
Someone’s trying to kill her.
Shujaa is a Changed One, a Creation Caster mage whose mutated form makes him invincible in battle. Now that the Tsar and Vicomte are gone, Shujaa wants to rise and rule. To do so, he must eliminate all those powerful enough to oppose him, and Elea is top on his list. Anyone who offers her aid quickly ends up dead.
In the end, there’s only one person who can keep Elea safe while helping her defeat Shujaa: Rowan. Like it or not, Elea must team up with her old love. With Philippe along for the ride, Elea plans to team with Rowan without losing her heart this time. But that’s when all her plans fall apart…

Goodreads Summary: As a Grand Mistress Necromancer, Elea’s a witch who commands the ultimate power over spirit and bone. It’s magic that she’ll need in order to stop the Vicomte Gaspard from killing her Sisters by draining their magic along with their life force.

To find and free her fellow witches, Elea must venture into some of the most dangerous places in the realm. What starts off as a rescue quest could easily turn into a suicide mission. And with the handsome warlock Rowan along to help, Elea may be risking more than her life. Her growing feelings for Rowan might put her heart on the line, too.
Rating: 4.5 Stars
Review: Elea may have sent Viktor into exile, but now the Vicomte has stepped into his place, his plans perhaps just as sinister– if not worse– than the Tsar's. Once again teaming up with the Casters, who she can't seem to be rid of, Elea's quest continues as she searches for lost Necromancers abducted by Gaspard and a mysterious Lady Amelia.

Concealed really steps it up a level. Plans turn to dust and moves become frantic as time is truly against them. Finding Lady Amelia proves to be quite the challenge. Elea resorts to masquerading as another in order to infiltrate Royal events. As always, Rowan is there and his presence is a confusing thing for Elea.

Draining Necromancers is more the focus of this book, as stopping the Tsar was in Cursed. It's more than just defeating the Vicomte, other sinister forces are at work, all intending to stop Elea from achieving some peace and the freedom of her people.

Hybrid magic. As always, the key to everything. We are still only in the stage of uncovering things about it, but there is something beautiful about the way it's introduced. A true phenomena which I cannot help but marvel at. Casters and Necromancers are two types of very different people, and the Gods willed it this way.

Enemies pop out of nowhere, you'll be left gasping in shock! Cherished continues the legacy of Elea and enchants readers some more. Before you know it, you will be bewitched!

Cursed (Beholder #1) by Christina Bauer
Goodreads Summary: Although Elea’s the most powerful necromancer in history, she’s spent most of her nineteen years imprisoned in the Midnight Cloisters. Enchanted manacles keep her unique brand of soul magick in check. While the guards and initiates seem contented to torment her, the Cloister’s Mother Superior is obsessed with finding a safe way to destroy Elea, both body and soul.

Escape seems impossible until a handsome hunter named Asher offers to help. Elea takes a chance and soon develops feelings for the mysterious stranger. However, Asher may not be who he claims. Then again, Elea may not be, either…
Rating: 4 Stars
Review: Elea has been cursed by the Tsar, Victor. Training hard to kill him and break the curse, almost five years later Elea journeys to the Midnight Cloister, where she knows Viktor will be. But her travelling spell backfires and she finds herself in the company of one talented and handsome caster, Rowan. They must trust each other in order to survive, but how much trust is too much?

Friends, foes, potential allies? Elea will have to decide which is which on her own. Her quest won't be easy, one slip up may end her life or life as she knows it. Many games are played by all, a dangerous balancing act. Hybrid magic remains the only way to defeat the powerful mage Viktor, but Elea must learn to harness it first. The Midnight Cloister is more sinister than it seems, filled with secrets which prove the Tsar is conducting more experiments than believed.

It isn't easy for Elea to succeed, but she perseveres and continues to fight even as each part of her plan falls to pieces. As she learns through mistakes, the knowledge gained in this experience is the key to her shot at defeating Viktor. The help of others is crucial but first she must pass their tests.

Development of magic, a tough trip, and so much more awaits you in Cursed! You won't want to miss this great fantasy novel about a girl who refuses to accept her destiny and will fight the hard uphill battles thrust her way.
